E36 97-99 Side Marker Lights On E36 95!?

I was just cruzing ebay looking for whatever, and I saw side lights for an E36 97-99 that looks way cooler than the stock ones on my E36 95 car. I also noticed that there may be a diifference in installing the 97-99 style makers onto a 92-96 E36 car. Well they sell two distinct types for thos two distinct cars even though the body types of the E36 is identical from 92-99. Whats up?

Can this be done? I mean it is the same body type. Right?

the later styles are smaller and mount differently. they could, but you'd need pait and body filler
