e36 325 exhaust - BMW Forum

ok a while back i got pulled by a cop for a an illeagal exhaust system. i know mine is a bit loud and very unique but its 100% stock. i got my bmw dealership to help me win the case ( i fought it). so anyways i thought u can change ur exhaust. and then its not that loud . . . its quieter than a big truck or sumthing and muuch quiter than those ricers coffee cans. . . so anyways any1 here have an exhaust souning like this, ive attached my mp3, i think maybe the early 325 e36 were like this.

Sorry to break it to you but my 325is with no cats, intake, and Brullen Race exhaust is loudr

But you do have a sound bit which I would not even know how to make and I applaud you for that...

do u remember what it sounded like stock ? i wanted to know if other 325 had the same sound, i know the 328, and any e46 dont sound like that, the stock is very quiet, maybe just a that year. o ya i forgot to mention i have a 92

and u cant tell how lound it is from an mp3 cuz it depends how loud ur speakers are . . . even tho im sure urs is much louder

I have a 1993 and its not to loud but it sounds a lot better than that.

yeah... have you had an inspection lately? had things checked out? that sounds like a leak... i think it sounds cool, but it still sounds like a leak.

yes bmw inspected it after i got my ticket, then the machanic wrote a letter to the court for me so i could get it dismmissed. im sorry this is a bad recording.

also its sounded like this for 8 years, since i bought the car in 96

and ya it sounds much better than this in real life. it sounds like a leak bc u hear the sound waves ripping bc of

1. 5$ micropfone had to be put very close to pickup.
2. crappy laptop sound card cant record well.
3. mp3 conversion.

the only thing that sounds right is the idle and not even then, bc the bass form it is missing.

in real life its really nice, not like any tri flow/dinan/borla or after market but for stock its nice.

i wish i had a better sound card in my laptop, when the sound gets to much it rips and it sounds bad.

Yep, mine sounds that good too! (It's another '92 325i.)

I've heard that the '93 and later Vanos equiped Engines sound quieter, especially at WOT!

Maybe your Officer was misplacing his aggression on you...

LoL theres no way in hell thats stock muffler and cat. Shit thats what mine sounds like with straight pipes on.

ok people. now i am convinced i have a stock system w/o leaks. for 4 reasons.

1. my bmw dealership says so
2. one person in this forum witha 92 says so
3. one person with a 92 in another forum says so
4. the other day i was in da parkin lot a saw a e36 325 back up and pull away. ezactly same sound. i bet it was a 92

I don't know what model and year you drive FOX, but that mp3 sounds EXACTLY the same as my stock '92 325i! (No, really...) I have the previous owner's invoice for the stock muffler. The only non-OEM part (so far) on my car is the K&N filter.

As I posted, the '93 and later Vanos equiped engines are quieter, sorry boys...

I have a 92 325 IS and mine sounds a lot like that. But i dont think that it is quite that loud. Everyone asks me what exhaust i puy on, but i have a stock exhaust system.
