E36 1994 318i - Garbage Water pump?

Hi guys,
Are the 1994 E36 318i were affected by water pump failure due to plastic impeller? I thought this only applies for the E36 6 cylinder engines. I want to replace mine; I'm not having any heating issues but I'm not sure if the water pump was replaced with the metal impeller. Thanks.

FYI, BMW has gone back to a plastic type material on their waterpumps. Unlike the early water pumps that were pure plastic they are new using black pehnolic to make the impellers. Other aftermarket companies do make metal impeller waterpumps but I have seen issues with premature bearing failure in non-BMW brand pumps. Also BMW has now started to offer 2yr 24mo warranties on their parts.
