E-brake & Automatic Shifter Knob

I want to replace the automatic shifter knob and E-brake handle on my 92BMW.

I recentally purchased some nice brushed aluminum ones off E-bay, but they arrived without any instructions on how to remove the old ones . I looked at the E-brake and just cant figure out how it comes off is it pressed on and do I just pull and pull till it comes off??

And what about the automatic shifter knob, any help guys on how I can take these off the eaisest way possible without messing anything up. I would like to know if there is a special way or do I just go out there with brute strength and YANK!!

i believe you go pull the e-brake and put the auto shifter in drive, then yank as hard as you can while keeping vital body parts away from the sudden-release area. correct guys?

Ok so just pull the E-brake handle off, should it be set (pulled up) or no??

And the autoshifter put into drive then pull, why does it have to be set into the drive position?
