E 36 Brake Light

[E36 325I]

Whenever i go for a drive in my bimmer a check light comes on in my dashboard and a message pops up on the bottom meter of the console. It reads "brake light circuit" then flashes to "see owners manual". My problem is that i have checked my brake lights and there is no light out. The warning is coming on more and more often as i have noticed. If anyone knows anyway to fix this stupid problem please post a reply.

I have the same problem, does anybody have a fix or a link on how to handle this?

I have had this happen to me a couple of times. Only once was a bulb out.

Two things you can try. Remove and reinstall all your brake lights one by one to insure good contact.

The next probable cause is the brake switch adjacent to the brake pedal.

I had the exact same problem. Here's how I fixed it:

Total cost was like $28.00 from the dealership. The switch comes in 2 varities, 2 prong, 4 prong. If you have ASC you'll need the 4 pronger.

just need to change brake light sensor switch, pretty easy...
