I own a 1995 325is automatic transmission coupe. I've had the car for appoximately 2 and a half months now. The other night, while I was driving, I noticed that there was a sudden urge for the car to accelerate as i was stopped. I literally had to push harder on the brake just so that the car wouldnt move forward. At first, I payed the incident no attention because the "surge" only happened for a second, that is, until it occured again. The surges only seem to occur after the car has warmed and only then if i have stopped (ie at a light) for over 4 minutes. But even still, the surges do not occur regularly. Is this performance normal? If not, what might be causing the problem?

used: And yes, i'm using the correct fuel grade! Also,immediately after recieving the vehicle, I had the oil changed,engine belts serviced, lamp bulbs replaced,wipers replaced, weather stripping (passenger door) replaced and new tires put on. Is there any other preventative maintenance that I should invest in? Thanks in advance for your responses..

does the idle bounce up??? while is has this "surge" or does it stay down..

Yes, please note the revs... are they surging with the increase in acceleration? Any strange noises from the engine (squealing)? Drivetrain? Tranny? Passenger?!?!?

A bushing on the cruise control throttle wears which can cause unprovoked acceleration. This was a recall I believe so you may want to check that out.

i had that happen to me, well, actually i was doing 60 and tried to brake...but car kept going, luckily it was 3 in the morning and no cars were out, well, none i couldnt pass...anyways, since i figured turning into my neighborhood doing 60 would be a bad idea, i jsut put her in neutral and turned off the ignition, turn out to be that bushing thing on the throttle, except it wasnt worn, it just slid out and got stuck...kinda scary but eh, popped it back in, and hasnt been a problem since

ive got a prob with my cruise control, when the engine is cold, cruise control wont stay on it will stay at the speed for a few seconds and then drop. i have to try it a few times to make it stay. ive got a 98 328i any advice?

oh yes, i forgot to mention that the idle does go up when the surges occur..but only temporarily..almost as if i had tapped the gas pedal..The surges do not occur while i'm accelerating.

and no, there doesnt seem to be any strange noises coming from the engine when the suges occur.
