drivetrain noise-help! - BMW Forum

I have just had my trans. mounts and flex disk replaced, but I am still hearing a bad rattle/ grinding from my undercarriage. It is inconsistent while driving stright, but awful when in a right-hand turn. left turn is not noticeable. I am assuming it is the centerbearing or u-joint...Rear wheels feel tight so I dont think its the wheel bearings. No noticable effect on performance, just a bad noise and vibration. Is there anything else that may be causing this??!!

well geez i was thinking wheel bearing but if you checked them than have you gotten a chance to check the brakes? maybe a caliper is seizing.

any idea what general area the noise is coming from?

the noise is definitely coming from right underneath the rear floor area...I am about 99% sure it is time for a new driveshaft but didnt know if there was anything else that may be making noise down there.

what makes you think its the driveshaft? to me it sounds like your guibo disk still, (flex disk) if its your driveshaft, look forward to paying a decent amount of money they are very rare to go bad.

Well I am assuming the center bearing is shot and that the ujoints are bad too and its probably out of balance. And the flex disk has less than 200 miles on it and I inspected it; seems fine, was dealer installed. Local mechanic is going to take a peek and we'll see.

Has there been any exhaust work recently? Sometimes the exhaust will rub the frame/suspension/driveshaft when turning if it is misaligned.
