Hello, I have recently bought a 94' 325is. I am very happy with it, but it has a few bugs.
One thing is the locks. I cant seem to figure out how to lock it. I have two different keys. One for ignition and one for my door lock. if I turn the key to lock it, both doorlocks go down then pop up. If i hold the key to the locked position, the driver side doorlock wont pop back up, but the passenger side does. So what i do is hold the key to lock the driver side, then walk all the way around to the passenger side to manually push the lock down. Its only when I push the driver side down that it pops them back up. Also, neither of my keys work for the passenger side door. I dont know if it will help to tell you that i have a Viper brand alarm system.
Another thing is that i cannot figure out how to lock my trunk. I have tried both keys turning both ways. I have also tried to push the button in and turn the key. I am thinking i dont have the key for it, but then again i have never had a Bimmer before so i dont know how the lock works.
Another problem is my spedometer. It doesnt work properly It was just recently that it stopped working. i have an aftermarket white panel thingy... anyway, the spedo pulses up rather than go up smoothly. Also it seems to get stuck on some speeds. If im going 25-40 it is stuck on 23 if i get to 50 it jumps up and sticks untill i get to 65. The speed is accurate on the check panel under the sterio though. I am thinking its electrical, what do you think?
Lastly, i am missing a few clips for my door panel. you know the little white clips that holds the panel on. Where would i go to get a few more of those?
Oh and one more thing, The window on the passanger side goes down a little when i open the door, and then goes back up after i close the door. Well, the driver side doesnt do that. It rolls up and down fine, But it wont roll up that last little centimeter. When i open the door it doesnt move at all. At least it is in the down position so that i can still open my door without ripping the window out. It has a space, so it whistles and leaks when it rains. Im not liking that with the leather interior.
There is a DIY for "resetting" the power windows. I don't know if it will help the up and down associated with opening/closing the door but search around for the procedure. I know its in my Bentley but I don't have it here at work...maybe someone has it handy......
The little white door panel clips can be found at www.bavauto.com. I ordered some through them and they work perfectly, they're not cheap however. I think I paid 0.95 a piece... or somewhewre around that area.
Many of these cars, as they age, have an issue with the bracket that supports the door lock solenoid. I would remove the inner door panel on drivers door and take a look at the support bracket. I would not be surprised if you find the support bracket cracked or broken in two. If that is the case, welding or riveting it back together may solve your problem
With your speedometer issue - What could be happening is the adhesive behind your aftermarket white panel thingy is failing, causing it to lift up, and causing resistance to the movement of the needle.
