Not really sure on sedan e36 but for my sedan e34 the little plastic piece on the armrest handle u cud take off with a flathead. Then undo the screws. Also undo screws located in the door handle itself. Then its a bit of pulling and tugging and more than likely you might break a few clips. A few and youll be fine, mroe and ur gonna need to buy some. They are cheap and you should repace themw hetehr or not htey break.

Anyone else let us know if its the same on the e36 sedan?

Yep. You'll need a T20 Torx screwdriver for the screws mentioned. The door handle trim comes off by pulling the trim outwards awayfrom the door panel, and sliding it forward towards the front of the car. Hope this helps.

Start prying from the bottom first and work your way up. If you pull it out correctly, you shouldn't break any clips.
