frr8dog is an unknown quantity at this point
Today for the first time in my 1997 318i convertible E36 as I was driving the doors automaticaly locked and according to the manual this is not a feature of this car. Also soon after this I raised all four windows together with the single button for this feature and after closing about 20 seconds later they all dropped about 2 inches. The top was down while this happened. I have the car 2 weeks and after one week the water pump broke so I am a little worried as things seem to be going wrong too quickly on this car, 104,000miles

Well... I have a 97... and the doors automatically lock..... if anything its a good thing that they locked.... I wouldnt worry about that... as long as you can unlock them...

As for the windows.... if there is anything in the way of the window in its upward path towards being closed.... if something obstructs it... it will stop and come back down 2 or so inches.... its a safty thing. But why they would do it with absolutely nothing in the way... I have no clue.... its probably something simple.. that a tech would point out in a minute... I'm just giving you some info so you know why your windows do that normally and that I have a 97 and my locks also automatically lock themselves... which is another safty thing.....
Good Luck..
