The cap has a small dipstick with two marks. The fluid should be between the two marks. Unscrew the cap, wipe off dipstick, screw in cap, unscrew cap and check. According to the manual if it's above the top mark with the engine not running, that's normal. If it's below the bottom mark fluid low.

Oh, okay, where to check fluid. It's between the engine and the airbox, down in sort of a hole. If you take the airbox out, you can see it better. Has a scalloped knob on top. Sorta behind the alternator.

that has nothing to do with power steering. if it was low power steering fluid, it would only make noise when you turn. that is unless the pump is shot, then you would have a hard time turning the wheel. sounds to me like a pulley is tightened too much and is seizing. take off the belt and try to turn each pulley individually by hand and see if any of them are seized. if not, then put the belt back on and double check the tension on the belt. you should have about a half inch of play in the belt.
i forgot to say this only happens when i drive for about 45 minutes. so its not even all the time just when the engine gets warm. does this make a difference of what it is
i just checked the power steering fluid and it is just at the tip of the actual stick. thats all. not even close to the line
i tried about 7 times to make sure i wasnt just crazy but barely any at all and the car has been sitting for about 22 hours. i take it this could be the cause. or no
