i only ask because i made my dad pay 30 bucks extra and get the oil changed with mobil1, the guy there tryed to tell me that bmw recommends castrol, and we could save 5 bucks on castrol, i was like what, i was like it's ok i want mobil 1, then my dad was like doesn't bmw reccomend mobil 1, he's like that's the first time i ever heard that, uugghh someone needs to talk some sence in my dad he won't let me take it to the bmw shop, but he'll take it to jiffy lube and spend twice as much becuase you want mobil 1 not castrol and that they charge more for the bimmer, wtf it makes me so mad, i want to change the damn oil myself, but no dad says no it's better to take it to jiffy lube, wtf , sorry just had to rant a little
According to the repair manual, Mobil 1 5W-30 is an approved speciality oil. Does anyone know anything about Mobil 1 0W-40? It says it is made for European cars.
Oil is oil, I use castrol, but everyone has there own opinions. Catrol and Mobil are probably some of the best out there. O and another thing u want to change the oil urself because at places like jiffylube they dont let all the old oil out of the system. It takes like 10 mins and there is still old oil residue in there. So when i do my oil i let it sit for about 2-3 hours then put some good fresh oil in there. Do it urself man.. save urself some money and ur car will be happy too!!

My dealer recommended Shell 5W-40 for my bimmer. The numbers like 5W-30 or 15W-50 depends on where you live so ask your local BMW dealer what oil to use.
