went out to my car (93 318is) today after class and found my drivers side side mirror slightly out of place (just the glass, not the housing), so when i got in i adjusted it with the controls but now when i look in it everything is kind of distorted. its like putting on some glasses with the wrong perscription or a carnaval mirror or something when i look in it now! what the heck happened and how to i fix it?
hmmm you might need a new mirror, the film that tints it blue might be coming off, normally this is what happens on the edge and you get the browing ugly look on the mirror
damn, how much would it cost me to replace the mirror? well, the clearcoat is pealing off the top of the housing anyways, would it make sense to replace the whole unit?
might as well replace it with new ones since the old ones would need repainting anyways, it will save you some of the trouble of installing the glass parts in the old ones cause the whole mirror is fairly simple to install.
The glass piece itself is a dealer item, it's about $60 per side. There's a ring just behind the glass that you spin a half inch to release the mirror glass. If you buy the new one first and look on the back of it you'll see the ring and how it works to release it.
But here's a few online supply links for the whole mirror for around $100.... (made in Asia?)....
