Alrighty, I just installed my new Dinan chip for my 95 325i. First start sounded like shit and died. Second start, sputtered a bit and then started running normal. I turned it off and havn't driven it yet, because I need to put supreme fuel in it.
Questions:
Did I screw it up by starting the car with the midgrade fuel in it? Is that why it died and sputtered, or does this seem as if something is wrong?
Secondly, should it be ok once I put ten gallons of supreme in mixed with the quarter of a quarter left of the midgrade in the tank?
Also, should I unplug my battery after the installation and plug it back in? The instructions didn't tell me to, but it seems as if this would help, no?
Any input would be great. Thanks.

I'm not sure if you messed it up starting with midgrade fuel, but just to be safe I would put your old chip back in and drive around and burn the fuel until empty, then fill up with supreme fuel. Maybe add some Chevron Techron Fuel Injection Cleaner also. When i first installed my chip it did something similar. It wouldn't start the first few tries, but when it finally did it ran normal. I also started with supreme though. You don't need to unplug the battery, some may argue that you do in order to "reset" your computer. But I never did when i installed my JC chip and it worked immediatley without unplugging the battery.

really, i have always wondered that... so after you put in the chip you felt the power and torque right away... just like one second not there one second there
I drove it around and felt the power addition. It was nice, but once I turned the car off when I went to restart it I had to hold the key turned for a lot longer than normal to get it to start. It doesn't sound quite right at startup at all, but once it starts it seems fine. Now I don't know if I should take it out or leave it in. I'm scared I'm screwing something up!
Chip is for 93-95 ecu number 413 which is what I have. It SHOULD work. I know for a fact it's authentic. ERGGHHH I hate when things don't work right!

91 octane mod? There's no mod that you need to put 91 octane. If you mean have I filled up with 91 octane, then yes I just got a full tank of shell v-power. Sometimes my car starts normal and sometimes it takes longer than usual to start and sounds like its choking or something... Also, the engine revs a bit when i start it up as if I am pushing on the accelerator and the lights dim then get brighter....
I'm starting to think even though the year and ecu number match up this chip isn't for my car cause it's just being WEIRD.

Yup. HP and Torque gain right after I put the chip in and drove. I actually took the chip out a few days ago and put the stock one back and definitely felt a differnence when i first hit the gas. Car didn't pull nearly the same. Exactly, one second there.. the next it's gone.
It sounds like something with fuel delivery. Do you have to depress the accelerator for it to start up?

No. Like I said sometimes i startd just fine, sometimes it wont start at all.. and sometimes I just have to hold the key in the start position while it sputters for a while.. then clicks on..
I guess I'm going to call Dinan tomorrow and ask them what's up.

bimmerboy I have had my 94 325i for about 4 weeks and was wondering what some cheap mods and nice looking upgrades were. In my case $300 or lower. I'm still on my first 6 months of driving by myself till the end of january.
Was thinking of:
tints
clear lights (ones by headlight forget what they are called)
tailights where the part that is orange on OEM E36 325i's is clear
Intake
new speakers (my bro says they aren't far off blown).
All help appreciated
