Dinan Automatic Trans Chip

OK.... so i have a 94 318is.... it needs to go faster, although i dont have hte money for a supercharger or turbo as of yet, but in the near future....

i did all the cosmetic stuff, from lights, to taillights, to e46 m3 wheels, cleared everything, tv, dvd, subs, blah blah....... and more so all the cosmetic and audio stuff is done, theres nothing else i can do........

anyways... now i want to work on performance, yes this should have been done first, but i didnt, so this is what i want to do, and i need your knowledge and help

I just installed a Dinan engine chip, short ram intake w/k&n filter

these are my next options (yes, i know that the super charger/turbo would be better, but i wont be able to do that until after x-mas time...) so this is what ive got to work with:

1) Dinan Automatic Transmission Chip - supposed to give u better acceleration, changes the points the gears shift at etc... $200
2) Dinan intake manifold - i think it said $350 - give u more air, more hp, more trq
3) Dinan or UUC or AA exhaust - pricing some wheres btwn $700-$1500

i can do the first 2, (#1+#2), or the last one (#3) as of right now....
what do you guys think?
any other suggestions? differnet brands, and products
what would be the best combination



and if you guys know anything about a Super Charger or Turbo Charger for us 4 cylinder 318is..... please let me know, if the price isnt too much more than the options i was looking at now, ill jsut wait and then get the super charger/ turbo.....

If you already put all that money into it and plan on putting a lot more money into it....why didn't you just buy a 325 or even a 328? Seems like you could afford one if you spent all this money on this other stuff...

due to plentiful speeding tickets, and accidents, i am uninsurable in a faster car for the next couple years, until the rates go down.... having a faster car from the factory is really what has gotten me into this trouble in the first place... so i had to downgrade speed/cyc wise, for a period of time.

theyre already charging me over 4500 a year in insurance, and to get an even faster car stock..... the rates are through the roof...

so for the time being, i have to work with what ive got

and it really is a nice car, other than 2 less cyc... i really dont mind it too much.

so ive got to play the hands that are dealt to me for the time being...

oh, and to answer ur 325 question... my next car, as soon as insurance is lower, and my bad traffic past is behind me, will be a e46 M3!

I always hate it when someone asks a question and someone else replies sell the car. Selling the car seems like a bit of an extreme last resort.

I think your on the right track with your planned upgrades. I have little experiance with the 318 engine though. If you have an automatic, I would recommend a supercharger over the turbo. Automatics prefer a nice linear torque curve, as opposed to the torque curve of a turbo.

autoauthentica or whatever his name is had a link to a badass super charger made by downing atlanta or something like that..I'd look into that before doing ALL of those other mods if you want serious performance boost... or better yet, do a motor swap like I'm starting tonight :P

I did imply to sell the car....I was just saying it might be easier to get better performance by getting a better car rather than putting a bunch of shit into it. $4500 a year for insurance????! Christ that's a lot...if I had to pay that much I would probably choose to ride a bike instead. Hopefully you have a good paying job!

If you have a bad driving record behind you, I'd invest in a valentine one before you do performance modding. If it saves you once, it's worth it.
