Differential Fluid

Hi, I've heard you need to change ur diff fluid. I've read up on how to replace it and all but just wanted to know what it is and how it affects ur car and how to know if your runnig low on the stuff. I'm thinking of getting it done soon so would like to see how much it should cost for the mechanic to get it done. I'm from Australia.

The diff fluid basically lubricates the gears in the rear end. The drive shaft connects to the diff and the diff is what turns the wheels in rear.. If you have never changed it before it would be good maintainence on your part to have it done. A shop will prolly charge you an hour labor..

it helps prevent wear and tear. its just like engine oil.
