So. I guess I'll get a new alternator (seeing that they just replaced the water pump belt which also runs the alternator, yes?).

Anyway. So I got some Lock de-icer+lubricant in the little composite black strip that goes down the side of the car (across the front and rear quarterpanels, and both doors). Somehow, this managed to melt the fastener holding the strip to the door, and now, just under my door lock, the black strip is kind of not attached.

Where can I find this fastener? Do I HAVE to go to my stealership to buy this? I haven't noticed a fastener of this sort at a normal hardware store (go to Ace and Home Depot). I know it should only take a few minutes to do this myself... do I have to pop off the entire piece, and just replace both fasteners? Are these really expensive retarded $8 fasteners?

They shouldn't be all that expensive. Have you tried some double-sided tape?

It turns out that the fastener is about $3.00 at your local stealership. Pry out the fastener with a flathead and remove the old boot, pop the new one in, and if you can't get the fastener onto the moulding, put it into the boot and start swinging away at the moulding. With a sharp rap, it should pop all into place.
