Debaffled Questions - BMW Forum

Alright, I did a search on the forum. And if a de-baffled airbox means what I think it means, it means that you are no longer impeding the flow of air through the airbox.

I was just curious ... is this bad for the car? I mean in the long run and also, what kind of performance gains are there?

Not bad for the car...and I would say realistically with a good Green or K&N drop-in maybe 5-8hp?

RIBEMR26 is about right. Keep in mind that 5hp gain is do in part to a better drop in filter, not so much the debaffling. The only reason BMW adds the "baffle" is to quiet the intake. Removing it just helps the engine breath better. It is not a big deal and will not present any potential harm to your engine.

Unless you've got a squirrel in the intake that was too big to fit through the baffle but not too big to fit through the hole behind it. But there's still the screens on the air flow meter......
