Dealer Multi-point Inspection

Some people suggest thaty one takes a used car to the dealership for a general checkup after purchasing it. Someone mentioned a checkup that cost around $500. I called the dealership and they pffered me either the Inspection I or II services, or a checkup for which they only charge one hour of labor ($82). What did you get with your ~$500?

OK there is Inspection I and Inspection II and they both rotate like every 15,000 or 20,000 miles i believe as to which one you are supposed to do. Inspection II is the one I had done and includes changing the air filter, oil and oil filter, spark plugs, checking all trans fluid and diff fluid.....umm actually I found a site here

For all that it is going to take more than an hour. I called my local dealership and they quoted me $830, and they would give me a loaner car since it takes so long to do. I ended up taking it to a bmw specialist mechanic and I bought my own fluid(redline, better fluids), and air filter (k&n) this saved a bit of money from them but it ended up being the same since i spent the money on the parts. I had to leave it with them for the day.

That should give you all the info you need, as you can see these are a bit more in depth than the general inspection. If you have the service records on your car you should be able to see when they did these inspections.

I know about Inspection I and Inspection II. All I want is a general inspection of my fluids, hoses, and weird noises. I hope the 1 hr of labor covers it. I don't trust any of the mechanics in my area yet, so I go to the dealer for stuff that doesn't really cost much. Delmarco had mentioned some kind of an inspection he had done on his car when he got it.

BTW, wow. Inspection I here runs about $380 at the dealership, and Inspection II is about $700. They charge $125 for an oil service. Pres had said his mechanic in Little Rock charged under $400 for an Inspection II. Worth the drive for me (about 3.5 hours, each way).

I had the Inspection II done right after I bought my car, looked at service records and that is what I needed. It was $380 plus the cost of my parts which came right to $500. But I have a k&n air filter and better fluids in the car.

Mine cost around that much too.

You're supposed to get your car checked out somewhere BEFORE buyinging it. Still, if you've already bought it, get the check up anyway.

Haha, the dealerships trying to get u to take it up your arse. Don't take it to the dealership and don't pay more than around 60 bucks or so for a complete check up on the car. YOu don't need anything changed, you just want to make sure it's not a lemon. When it's time for your inspection, I believe the car tells you... but I can't remember right now... but I KNEW.

Don't your autoclubs offer this kind of service? Over here they will inspect a car mechanically and carry out checks on the authenticity of ownership and outstanding debts on it for a fee.
