So a while back I removed my steering wheel to get to my instrument cluster. In doing so, i removed the airbag. Ever since, the damned SRS light won't quit blinking.
I've tried, leaving the battery off for an extended period of time, unplugging and re-installing the airbag, all to no avail.
It's not an EXTREEME GUYS I NEED HELP, but it's sure as hell annoying. Anyone got any advice?

You will probably have to take it to BMW and have it reset. I have had work done on the steering column and the light is now on, hopefully because it needs reseting and not because the system is actually not working, but I was told I would have to take it to BMW to get it looked at.

Well, hell. Hasn't some one figured out a way to "reset" that light too, kind of like you can use a wire and bridge the service and oil change lights? There are -no- bmw dealers near me. It's over 2 hours drive to the nearest one.

I mean if you can figure out how to do it yourself then go for it, but BMW doesn't release all of it's codes to independents and I am pretty sure SRS system codes are some they don't, so an independent most likely wouldn't know what the problem is or what to do other than to check the fuses. If nothing else and you are sure it is just the light and the system is working then put a picture over it, that is what I have done for the time being.

And I thought I was the only ghetto modder on here.
Awesome.

I look at it this way, because I've got the same issue. You can buy that neat little tool and reset the light when it comes on, OR you can actually go and get them properly serviced and pay just as much as you would have to buy that little thing. 9 times out of ten, its a bad sensor or an accidental trip as your airbags really don't do anything other than sit there and wait to explode in your face. I'm choosing the service route simply because its a used car that i have no idea what the people before me did with it. Lets hope it works out.

I actually saved money, because the BMW Dealers in this area charges $130.00 an hour for labor.......& the trip there just to wait around.......this tool just does not clear the code, but it also tell's you what's wrong.......example: if it is the driver's side seat belt sensor, it will tell you that.....
also, he basically needs to clear the SRS light, because he disconnected his steering wheel without disconnecting his neg. cable on his battery.....this tripped the light.
But.... if you do not feel comfortable fixing it yourself, then maybe bringing it to a dealer is the best thing to do.
So, here's the only problem with that tool. It says its' for 94-00... My e36 is a 92...
