Sucks, tho I had this problem and needed to change both sensors in the belt receptacles or whatever they're called--not cheap, but not a ballbuster either. No problems since.

the most common fault with E36 air bag lights is the wiring to the seat belt pre-tensioners, the fault is in the block connector under the seats. You can buy a repair loom that has the wire from the tensioner to the conector a modified concector and wiring to the floor loom. To fit this unbolt the seat cut the wiring just above the carpet and SOLDER in the new loom it just plugs into the tensioner be careful on the passenger side not to cut the ocupancy mat wiring you normaly don't need the tensioners themselves

yeah mines on too...getting annoying...but I don't get this cutting wire stuff... ghead
my light blinks for a while then stays on. I figured it was maybe the service point where I need to take it to the dealer and have the system inspected and checked for regular service.. I didn't know there was a wire problem. Guess i'll have to check this out
