Thumbs up

Hello! I'm interested in changing the chip or using a Shark injector or OBDI converter in my 318i, 1998. I looked at many websites and couldn't found one that would work on my car...?

Anyone ever done this to a Post 1996 318i ?

Info:

Engine: 1.9L, M44
Trans: Manual
Mileage : 87k KM

Thanks!

H.

The 1998 318i comes with OBD2 in it doesn't it? Or i'm guessing it does?

EDIT: You're right, i can't find anything for it on bavauto.com, not sure what you'll have to do. But still, does the 318 engine even have OBD2 on it?

Yeah, 96+ the 318's were using the OBD2 M44 engine as opposed to the 92-95 OBD1 M42 engine. There are no chip replacements for the OBD2. However, I know Dinan and some other custom tuner companies will upload a more aggresive software onto the OBD2 computer.

IMO, it's not worth it. All my friends who have them installed in their M44's says it makes no difference at all except by raising the rev limiter. The OBD2 system is a huge bottleneck in all BMW motors. I would do the OBD1 swap if it's compatable or easy enough. It makes it much easier to tune. The performance OBD1 chip for the 318 makes the biggest difference ever, so I'd say it's worth it.
