Convertible problems - BMW Forum

I went to the BMW dealership and told them that i needed my top tightened up because on of the strings broke. I saw the string for about 80.00 on Bavauto but i have never messed with a conv.top before. Well they said it would cost 2500.00 to replace. Should i just buy a new top for 600.00 or try and do it myself. I really do not want to pay that much and i am in Hawaii so i am limited to 2nd opinions. Thanks Also 318ic 1995

I don't know anything about convertable tops, but god damn ?! $2500.00 !? Holy shit, hope you don't have to pay that much....Good Luck

No no no.... there has to be another way... even if you have to fork out 600 bucks... you can either repair or get a new one from a parts distrubutor and install it yourself... take a weekend off, buy a metric tool box and slowly take yours off and put the new on in... it cant be but so hard. But no way for paying that much money.

Well we were only thinking maybe 300.00 to fix. So imagine my surprise when this bill came for 2500.00.
