confused by E36 or E46

hello, im a new bmw owner (4 days now), i went from a 2000 ford contour svt to a 1999 323is , i'm concused if its a e36 or a e46, also how do i upload photos?

thanks i love this site, a lot of good information, i'll be on here quite abit from now on, ive got a lot of ideas for my car, i would like to start posting some photos.

Your car is an E46, as it is post-1998.

thats kind of what i thought but it looks like the e36 and not any of the e46's such as the headlights being more pointed on the tips and not rounded.
