Is This A Common Problem?

I always have to change my altornator belt every 2 or 3 months and i know that that is not right, but i was wondering if anyone has hd this problem and if there is a way to fix this problem. If it helps, the reason why i change the belt so often is because it always gets loser and loser to the point where I have it as tight as it can get, but it squeeks whenever I drive, so i just get a new one on there. Its getting anooying to change belts so often

hmmmm and its a 318is? my brother has a 92 318is, and he has never had problems like this. his belt gets loose over a time of 3-4 months.

sounds like the alternator isn't perfectly parallel with the belt, causing it to rub the belt funny, wearing it down.
