| I have a 1993 325i with the m50 engine, Everytime is cold out there and the car sits overnight, it does a rattling, tapping noise at startup then goes away in two seconds. it this the timing chain, ive replaced the tensioner already and did not help, this car had hydraulic lifter, could this be it. Ive read that if its the lifter is normal if the noise goes away in a couple of second. my case.
Anyway im running lubro moly 10w40 the weather does not goes below freezing., so i believe the oil is alright. and is also all full.
i've done a complete work on this engine, all fluids replaced, gaskets and all, the only thing i did not do was to open the engine, take the head out. other that that all gasteks new and all.
after start up the engine is quiet, smooth and drives beautifully.
My questions are, does anyone knows what can this be?
And, will a s50/s52 timing chain tensioner fit an m50?
By the way i dont want to take to the dealer, i dont like their service, and im anal about my car, i dont feel confortable when other people mess with it..
thank you. and please let me know, i even have a video of the car making the noise, if you want i can e mailed to you so you can have a better idea. Thanks!! |
