I look around for intakes, and people always mention the JC Intakes. There's no way im paying over 300$ for a tube with a filter in it, no matter how good it is. Does anyone have any good alternatives for around 250$ or less?
I'm mainly looking for that better engine sound, and at least some sort of minor hp gain. I don't think 3 hp is worth a 300$ difference, etc.
make one ur self, do a search, plenty of people have made one...personally im gettin the dinana cai cuz im gettin it for the conforti price , IMO paying 300 bux for something worth 500 and gettin like 7-11 hp is worth it...but then again, to each to his own..
I just did a search, and I came across the Cosmo CAI, for 100$, do you think it's worth it? It might not even be a true CAI, but it looks pretty nice, and I won't have to pay so much extra for a carbon fiber tube.
I have to say Im very pleased with it. There was a power gain, and it improved the sounds of the car above 3K.(it actually totally changed the sound of the car) Unforunately, I think the sound of the intake is obnouxious above 6K... and I guess thats the price you pay to have $140 CAI unit over a $300 unit.
My friend has the Dinan carbon fiber CAI and side by side the bends are viturally identical. I believe that is the key to smooth airflow, and thus I consider the cosmo kit an equivlant to a Dinan style CAI. It snarls like your sucking air to make 400 ponies instead of 200. Just seems out of place to me.
I've never tried a different CAI so I can't say there is a difference between them all. Whether on a budget or not, you should try to look for a true CAI that goes into the brake duct area, which delivers cooler air then the short stalk CAI with the heat shield compartment.
To do list:
Suspension--- researching
UUC System U TDM- 3/05
M50 manifold converstion 3/05
off to the tuning shop for custom software 4/05
Cams/lightened flywheel, throttlebody........ well lets see what happens
I am very impressed with my Dinan CAI. Also with the intake....you're gonna want the Dinan Stage 1 software so the computer can make up for the fuel/air ratio. The MAF sensor can only do so much. This is what the Dinan guys at the dealer told me. I also have the Dinan throttle body and AA exhaust. With all this you need the Stage 2 software. Don't go cheap, you're driving a BMW.
