I had never really seen the digital climate control on newer beamers until today... well I want to put one of those in my 325i. Can it be done?

Just an opinion, but i totally wouldn't do it.

When i went to by my next BMW (prior to this one) I asked my my mechanic (BMW Master Tech of umpteen billion years) what to watch out for. He said (among other things) not to buy an e36 with digital climate control. He said they are prone to breakage and expensive to fix or replace it.

To those of you who have it, hope all is well and continues....

It can be done. It just means having to redo your entire climate control system and at least a grand if not more to do it.

There is some other info around here about that as well...

really?, i have had my car for two and a half years now and have not had any problems with it yet. i don't think i could live without it. it also works great with my alarm, i just set the thing on auto and like a cold temp on a hot day before leaving the car, turn it on before i go out to it and it is all nice and cold, it even turns the air off when the car is starting up and stuff so not to strain the engine, its good stuff.

however i have heard that it is a waste of money to try and switch it over from manual to digital, not just from people on this forum

I'm glad to hear that scean, as i stated before, such a system is prone to breakage but by no means guranteed (BMW does make a pretty good car). Also like i said before, hope your good fortune continues...

You have to remove the compleet dash, because of other (electrical) parts at the heater/cooling unit. When you asking me if to do such thing: nope! You'll regret that when there come some vibrations in the dash because of the whole operation.
