Climate Control Board - Faulty or Not

Hi all,

I have just bought a 1997 318is Coupe Sport and am experiecing some issue's i never noticed when purchasing the car.

When i start the car and play around with the Climate Control settings, so far it works fine. However, when i turn off the car and pull out the key from the ignition, the climate control board makes a constant humming sound/noise like there is a fan inside it still spining or a faulty relay or somesort. This lasts for about a 10 mins or so and then the sound/noise goes off.

Is this normal operation?

Also the Hear Windscreen defroster is not working i do not think, however, i have not had a chance to check it properly as the weather in the UK is quite hot and humind.

My 325is does this also... I had the climate control out of it yesterday (bulb replacements) and turned the car on while it was out. There is a fan on the climate control unit that stays running after you remove the key. It also does it on the girlfriend's 328is, so I'm going to guess that it's normal.

Yeah, I have a 97 328i and one time I pulled the key out in my garage, heard that sound, and spent a few minutes trying to track it down. It was coming out of the right side of the climate control. I was considering posting a question like you did, but now I see it must be normal.

Does anyone know what it's purpose is?
