Guys, I have a 94 325is auto, today during driving the "check engine" light turned on and everything seems normal. I do realize that the car is due for an oil change and just wondering if that's the reason the light turned on or is there anything else could went wrong.
thanks a lot.
When my check engine light comes on it says something on the computer in the center console. It could be alot of things, see what that says. There are some common things that can trip that and it will not hurt you to drive the car (Brake Light Circuit and such).

Is it a "check engine" or just "check". The first one indicates a code is in the computer for some malfunction. There is a way to see the codes with the gas pedal. There might be a FAQ or do a search. The "check" light usually means something minor is wrong. If you have the OBC, it should tell you what is wrong.

I think you need to get your oil changed. Take it to a place that specializes in german cars. When you change your oil yourself (at least for me) the light's don't get reset to green. Meaning, read your manual. When all those green squares dissapear, you should take it in. I think it's just a gimmick to get us to take it to a proffessional and that they just reset the thing... Still, I think that it's the safest bet for you.
THe "CHECK ENGINE" light is red. Like explained earlier these lights are not related.
Based on the year of your car it is likely a faulty O2 sensor. Do the pedal trick to read the code. I bet it will read 1-2-2-1. Check it out and get back to us..

turn your key to the fully ON position, but do not start the motor. Pump the gas pedal 4 times fast and your check engine light will blink out a series of numbers. (blink 3 times, pause blink 5 times, pause... you get the idea, there will be 4 digits in the code) You can compare this pattern to a list online or to the list in a Bentley manual. Most likely it is an o2 sensor.
