Check engine light flashing... ? help

Hey every one, heres the deal. I have a 1992 318is and recently the check engine light has been flashing on and off and sometimes stays on but usually just flashes. When you accelerate the car seems to have a listen stutter in in, kinda seems like its cutting out a little bit here and there. While this is happening the lights get dim and bright dim and bright exc. Does anybody know anything that would mayb cause that? mayb my alternator or something?

misfire is what causes CEL to blink and then stay on after it is not corrected.

Light gets dim and bright... *hmmm, i would have the battery & alternator checked too. Usually batteries that can't hold a charge will cause that.

Incidentally, not enough voltage into your injectors is also a cause for misfire.

Then, plugs, wires(if any), coil/s will be your next line of suspicion
