Check Engine Light

Hey guys, how's everyone's baby doing? Mines coming along after a year, but still have little things here and there. I recently got an m3 mass air inatake sensor off of ebay, and installed it on my 1993 325is. Once I installed it my check engine light went off, but the next day it came back on. I was confused. So i messed around with it and it went back off. Now it went back on. So it goes on and off everytime it feels like it and when it's off and i sit and idle for a couple minutes it will go on again. I don't know what to do and I don't think there's anything wrong wit my engine, it's just the sensor. Is there problem using an m3 air mass sensor on a 325is???? Any help would be much appreciated.

doesn't sound like your MAF is going bad. sounds like something else to me. ICV or a clogged fuel line or something like that.. I'm no expect but I would take it somewhere and have codes ran. also check your O2 Sensors.

Second I wouldn't advertise for shit on the e36 forum. that's a REAL quick way to get banned.

O, sorry, I didn't know I couldn't just post stuff if anyone was interested. I'm not really advertising. But thanks for the heads up. I didn't think I could get banned for it. But to further continue on the topic, I had my O2 sensors replaced like a couple months ago. I still wouldn't understand why the check engine light would go on and off when it wants to though.

well you need to take your car to have the codes pulled if there are any. could be from a million different things like I said. any other symptoms that the car is having? rough idle?

Sorry for the hi-jack, but I've got a quick question...after your check engine light comes on, and you've pulled the code(s), and fixed what ever problem was causing the code, will the check engine light automaticly go off?


Now back to the thread....

Is there only one O2 sensor on the OBDI cars? I thought there was two, and four on OBDII cars

wulley1- OBD I has one O2 sensor- I know this becasue I just had this changed yesterday. I went to do it on Sat. but couldn't remove the old one. I had it on jack stands and there is very limited room to manuver the wrech and it would not budge at all. Went to Meinike and they took out/ put it in for 30 bucs. And the check engine light will go off after a few minutes of driving after the O2 sensor is put in.

Because a 93 has a Motronic 3.x system in it, you should be able to read the engine fault code yourself:

I used this to diagnose a failing O2 sensor on my 94 325i.
