Check Engine Fault Code P1188

Hey guys, I've seen plenty of great advice on here before, so I'm hoping someone can help. I've got a 98 323is that just turned 200k. My check engine light came on with code P1188 Fuel Control (bank 1 sensor 1). I have seen no changes in performance or fuel mileage. I really don't want to take it to a mechanic or dealership and pay over $100 if there's nothing wrong, or a simple thing I can fix myself. PLEASE HELP!!!

make sure your gas cap is on securely, next check your air intake hose, there might be a crack in it, I've seen air leaks cause that code, and many others

Thanks. Gas cap gasket looks good and fits securely. Where do the leaks usually occur? Just the area between the filter & throttle?

Yes that's where I would check first, but it can be anywhere really, that code is pretty generic.

I checked with some soapy water, but I didn't seem to find any leaks. I've heard it may be the MAF sensor or O2 sensors? Any merrit to this?

Easy way to find out if its the MAF, remove it, if the car has no change whatsoever its shot, if its ok then I would go for camshaft sensor, however if the car is running fine leave it until it starts to misbehave.

I think I am going to leave it until it misbehaves. Other than the code, I have to reason to believe something's wrong. Thanks guys.
