Check Coolant Level

I have a 96 328is and whenever i turn the car off the check coolant level message flashes. We checked the coolant level and it is slightly above the cold line and none appears to be leaking. Could this be a sensor and if so how would i fix? And just out of curiousity where is the sensor located? Thanks for your help.

The sensor is on the expansion tank. This seems to be a common problem with our cars.

OK... a few questions about your problem.. did you resently have your coolant changed...?

Are you checking the coolant level when the engine is cold.. or warm?

Just so you know.. you should fill her up a little above the cold... I've found that keeps that grip away pretty well...

Sensor. I have this problem too, i'm too lazy to flush and replace.

same thing happens to my car... when i shut off the car it tells me to check coolant level... need to replace coolant sensor!

Thanks for the responses ill change the sensor when i decide to change the coolant. I do not know when the coolant was changed last but it hasnt been changed since dec 24/04 before that i dont know. We check it when it is cold and it is filled slightly above the cold line. Again thank you for your responces.
