So, I bought this "mod" from ebay and here what it basically does; you attach this resistor/sensor onto the air sensor (located under the engine) which "fakes" your engine into believing that colder air is coming into the engine which in turn makes your engine work harder by increasing more fuel into the engine bay. (or at least that's what it suppose to do) It only changes your engine by 2-3degrees (F) which is relatively safe. If you wanna read more just simple type "bmw chip" into the ebay search and it should show up. In theory it makes sense and t should work, but I will soon be getting a cold air intake and was wondering if anyone knows that if this mod would increase/decrease the performance of the car. Also, anyone ever tried this mod by any chance?
By the way, I know its a cheap/ebay product so easy on the disses. You know darn well that if you were given a chance to increase hp in a relatively fast way, you would do the same thing.
If that thing does what you say it does, it will simply make the engine run rich (high gas to air ratio). Correct me if I'm wrong, but that means bad gas mileage and not much else. You want the correct fuel/air mixture, not just a whole lotta fuel. I'll try to take it easy, but I hope you didn't pay to much for it because it looks like you got taken.
The price wasn't a problem ($3-$5) Its what it does that concern me. Anyones else out there have any advice? Should I take it out since I'll be putting in a CAI?
it soudns ot me like its a racing chip, but u got ur definition wrong. What it does is reprograms ur computer to accept high octane fuel (premium) so that it changes ur ari:gas mixture ratio. Thus increasing horsepower. those are safe. You have a 1992 so that means it is in fact a chip and not shar injected.

sounds kinda like electronic nos. nos shoots in oxygen (please correct me if im wrong) and thus the engine has to compensate by injecting more fuel. sounds good, but for the price im skeptical

wow... this is the first time i've ever quoted my self...
Ok, it does not no anything else besides changing the incoming air temperature by tricking the ecu into believing so by about 2-3 degress. THAT'S ALL IT DOES. Its not a chip and its not another "intake" I suppose. It looks like a transistor. Don't mean to diss anyone, this is just what it is.
By the way, NOS does not bring in oxygen, it brings in Nigtrogen oxide aka laughing gas from a canister (simply put).
Sure, but it won't be up and posted until a couple of days. I have summer school all day and its hard to find between studying for physics and calc 2. No, I'm not in HS, its college work so its not a breeze to get through.
