Central locking button

I want to install a button in the centre console to lock/unlock my central locking. How difficult would this be to fit? What would be the easiest way to do it? What parts would be required?

Open to suggestions.

It seems to me, and what electrical knowledge I have, it wouldn't be a matter of fitting it. It's how well you think you can rig electrical wires and switches. If you go to the site sponsor's section of these forums, there is a link to the Hoffman Group. They have custom billet buttons in three different sizes. To be honest, you sould be able to go to your local car store or walmart and pick up a few electrical switches and wire. Just run the wires from your locking mechanism to the button and hide the wires under the carpet.

My point is, that fitting the buttons shouldn't be a problem because there are vast ammounts of various button/switch sizes out there.

You will see it mounted above the drivers window switch......in pic below....
You will have to pick up the central locking switch & cover either from a junk yard or @ the BMW Dealer.....shown in links below.....

the switch is #2 for $92.19 new

the cover is #18 for $2.61 new

Sometimes the wiring harness & connector are there in place under the console. If it was an option for the 1997 318i.......Do you know if it's there?

Haven't got that far yet - but the part numbers have got me on the right track - thanks.
