I see some 318is's rated at 1900cc and some at 1800cc. How do I tell what mine is ? Its a 1996. Would it be on the VIN plate which I can't find ?

my understanding was 98 onwards in Australia, but we have a different engine setup to the states

We use an m43 engine, where they use the m42 and m44

ive actually never looked at the specs in terms of displacement. i cant help ya, but good luck on the info search

In 1996, all the engines actually got bigger for emmissions. As we know, the 325 changed to the 328, going from a 2.5L I6 to a 2.8L. Im about 95% sure that in '96, when the 325 change, the 318 change from 1.8 to 1.9. I guess they just didnt feel like making new badges... Ill try to find the article where i read this...

So my guess is that you have the 1.9L...
