During my last oil change I had a check engine light on (1998 328I Sedan). The dealer said I got to change the catalytic converter for $1900. I said I have to wait for a few days and a few days later the light is off! Thank heavens I did not fix it! What is the scoop? Unfortunately, without any code (I could ask my dealer) available now, I do not know if there is something wrong.

Should I trade this in for a more reliable car? I do like this one. A 1998 328 has a value of approx $12,000.

Thanks for any advice.
