It does cost money to get a carfax account but you get the account for a certian amount of time so you can run a bunch of VINs. The purpose is if you're looking for a used car and shopping around, you can check all the cars you need to before making a decision. So on other boards like bimmerforums.com, guys with carfax accounts are nice enough to help people run their VINs.

Yeah I ran people's vins for them when I had the month subscription. Try posting in the lounge or something there's always somebody with an account. Or you could be the person and be nice.
