if you look in the fuse box, there is a fuse for a light in the engine. i have never found this light, but there is a fuse for it, and I have always assumed that is the switch.

Just because the sensor isn't pressed for the hood being up, doesn't mean the car doesn't have to start does it? Unless its part of the security system, then it would make sense...It does makes a cool little click noise when you press on it...I'm easily amused...

Live the Curves, you are the lucky winner, any thing off the top shelf. :P
I was at my mechanic's shop to reset my oil change light, and asked him about it. He said that is indeed what it is. It works in conjunction with the oem alarm. IF you have keyless entry, when engaged, it will beep three times. Each beep is a respective sensor mounted throughout the car. This being one of them.
On a side note, he said they actually install one of these behind the oem radio in the convertible models for obvious reasons, pretty cool.
ohhh, thats what all the beeping is for...makes a lot of sense now. I always wondered. I thought it was the equivalent to the horn blowing for a quick sec. when other cars engage alarms.

i can start the car with hood open.
I think i can move the car with the hood open. (haven't needed to so haven't tired.)
This is an imput to the GM to let the car know if the hood is open, closed, or in "service mode". If it alwasy reads open, the car will still run and work properly, but the modules in the car will never go to sleep which equals high conumer and eventually dead battery. It can be tied in to DWA for alarm if the hood is tampered with. Hopefully this is found to be helpful.
And I also have the stamp out for the light but no light in the spot...don't know if this is a typical item to disappear or what.
Curious. It's been laying inside my hood and has not "slept" since I bought the car. I haven't had any battery issues, and I certainly tax it with the aftermarket audio installed throughout the car.
