Car won't start, Radiator fan Jammed.

1994 325i Sedan.

So last week my car wouldn't start easily for whatever reason, then when it did start it would eventually stall. This is after absolutely NO issues with starting/idling up until this point. I had to leave town for a week so didn't have time to fix it, and I just got back in town today.

I noticed that my radiator fan was JAMMED into the radiator, in such away that the fan was stuck. It was only one bad blade that was cracked and causing the problem so I tore it out and now the fan spins freely. However my battery is dead (after all my starting problems earlier). I tried jumping with my roommate but after about 10 min I had very little success. He had to go so I am done jumping for now.

Is the fan blade thing a coincidence, or was it likely the cause of my start up issues? I notice now when I try and start the car, the fan spins up really fast, where before it must have just be jammed causing problems. My battery is also seriously dead, because after a jump attempt, the car won't even lock itself. after 10 minutes of being connected to another car it could only give me about 5 seconds of starting until it died. Do I need a new battery now?

I am thinking of getting a new battery to at least rule out the battery issue. What kind of battery (that I can just go to the local pepboys and pick up) will work with my car?

Damn.

Replaced battery with a brand new one. Car is eager to start now at least, but still won't. Guess it is off to the shop.

So mechanic says I have a troubled DME unit. He put my DME into another car and it the other car started but had trouble idling.

I wonder, I had a conforti chip installed about 3 months ago and it has been working flawlessly. Is is possible that all of a sudden the chip decided not to work?
