car won't run long...

hi, i'm new this forum and to bmw. I recently bought a 92 325i sedan (E36)
and now i think maybe the pump is dead or dying?

One day I was driving on the highway and my engine died out, everything else still worked fine but no motor, so i pulled aside and tried to start it again, nothing. I pulled apart the air box and majority of the intake and didn't see a problem there. but after sitting there for an hour or so it fired right up, then i tried to move it and it died. Now 2 weeks later It still will fire up and run just fine and idle all day, but as soon as i try to put it under load in any gear it just dies out.

I kinda checked the fuel pump, it feels like they are both working, i can feel a vibration from them while the car is on, but not when it's in the on position with the car off... so is there another way to check? And with a test light im getting a light off of #18 so should i start by replacing the fuel filter or go straight for the pump?

any help would be great, thanks!

The fuel pump died on my 93 318is one day while driving on the Highway. I had to have my car towed to an auto shop where the problem was identified as the fuel pump. However, in my case... once the fuel pump died... my car wouldn't start at all.

My MAF died on my 94 325ic as well... my car ran rough and was difficult to keep the it from stalling while at a stop sign. Once I replaced the MAF... car ran great.

Suggestion: Take your BMW to a garage where they can run a diagonsitic for about $100.00. This is probably the quickest way to find the problem without spending too much time and money chasing other possibilities.
