Car Won't Stop! Throttle Stuck

BMW 1996 318I 4dr won't stop.
When I get the car up to about 15mph the accelorator seems to be stuck. The car climbed to 70 before I put on the brakes. The accelorator was still stuck while I was breaking. Wasn't till I got down to that 15mph before it stopped.
I didn't touch the cruise controle when this happened, but later today i tried playing with the cruise to see if that was stuck. No luck.
If i put the car in neutral the rpms will jump to redline, and will not stop until I get below 15mph.

Anyone know how to stop this before the BMW wears my brake pads!

put the fuse for it, there is a fuse i cant rmember what its labelled as.

I'd try first cleaning the accelerator pedal... see if its gunked up... then I've move on to the accelerator wires that run to your intake air valve... its on top of the valves... clean that guy.. make sure its tight....

If neither of the two dont work.. I'd take it to a shop...

I pulled out the cruise controle fuse #32 i believe it was, but car wouldn't start. So i put the fuse back in. Checked pedal, that's not it. Checked cables and they do not stick, but I lubed them just in case. I took it for another spin and got up to 20mph. Then put it into neutral. Car went to redline until speed droped to 15mph. Anyone have more tips? Could it be the throttle positioning sensor?

Ah the good old days of my 318is... it almost killed me with the same issue. Took me three times to figure it out. See the picture attached, may be your problem. This is a factory recall.

"... See those silver wire throttle cable clips? Those clips are for an E36 recall. They are available from the dealer for a couple bucks and keep your cable from pulling out of the adjuster barrel and keeping the car at 3-4 rpm with no pedal input..."

I had the clips and I still had some problems. Cable casing was broken and it would slip out of place if I was hard on her in a curve.

I know it may sound a little stupid but I also had a problem with my carpet pushing up on the pedal.

Makes for interesting driving doesn't it...?

Not sure what you mean by this Vince?

Anyway, I managed to make it stop. I turned off the ASC. Something in the Automatic Stability Control is to blame. I'll have to find the fuse and pull is so I don't have to keep turning it off everytime I start the car.
