i just changed did my 90k- plugs, oil & filter, and fuel filter and the car still ran like shit until i RESET the lights. this seams to happen everytime, even after oil changes. does happen to anyone else? it seems to me that the computer makes the car run shitty when it thinks it needs work done and only performs up to par when the lights are reset regardless of the work being done at all. i should've tried resetting before doing the 90k just to see.

your car was probably sitting in "limp home mode" which makes the car run in the safest possible way, performance is completely hindered when in this mode. as for why it happens when you do service, im really not sure. who does the work on the car, yourself?

I had no idea the E36 cars were so intellegent as to adapt drivabilty and performance to maintenance need...

I always felt that my car drove way better after oil/filter changes ...but if I'm approaching the 3,000 mile interval for an oil change then my car accelerates slower and guzzles more gas to get moving.

Man BMWs are awesome...

ALLILL:
Do a fuel injection system cleanse next, also sparkplugs, Air/Gas Sensors can also affect performance, Also Brake/Differential fluids should be services every 2 or 3 oil service interval.

furious, i do my own wrenching. the 318's don't require all that much anyway.

he's right about that...I do all my wrench work too

also 318i aren't the fastest around. In fact the 318is is slower than the 318i by like 5HP...so you are not getting any performance gains over the other 318 E36s. The 318is is by fact the slowest of all E36 cars.

Tips:
Altanta Downing SuperCharger will increase the 318 E36 from 138HP to 300HP.

nah..I'm not into speed like that.
I've heard you'll have about 10,000 to 20,000 miles left after installing a charger...
you'll gradually just have other shit go wrong with your car eventually until you give up on it and part it out.

yeah, the 318 is an economy car. even in my 993 i don't drive too fast.

That is NOT true. There is no difference in engine tune between a 318i and a 318is. Where did you get the ridiculous idea that they'd change state of tune between a coupe and a sedan?
