Car Repairs A Little Cheaper Than Expected

I took my car in for repairs that were paid for by an insurance check made out to me, I am going to be sitting on a little extra and thought what the hell maybe it is time for a CAI. I have read so much information, but I have some questions.

Is there really a difference between the engine bay sealed off type(ecis, conforti, etc.) and the "true" cai(dinan, cosmos, benfer)?

I live in a place that gets alot of weather(snow, rain, sleet, ice, you name it we get it). So the dinan style worries me a bit with water getting in it. Also I would like to change out my headlights eventually and have heard that the intake may get in the way.

Need some honest opinions. I do not want to make my own, I want to buy a intake. I was all for ECIS and have heard good stuff but would I be better off with a Dinan or Cosmos type?

Also does the "sock" that you can put over the dinan/cosmos style intake work and does it restrict air flow?

honest opinion buy the ECIS performs just like all the others is only 250$ sounds great good throttle response etc

I had decided on ECIS a while back, but have been reading more on the Cosmos/Dinan ones. My main question is will an ECIS get in the way of ellipsoid headlights. I don't think I will ever go with Xenon but would like Ellipsoids and Angel eyes eventually.

hey JS, i got a almost brand new Cosmos CAI that I used for like 1000 miles and took it off when I decided to move back to cali. Well If you were interested, I shoot some pictures over to you.

I put a eurosport cold air intake on mine (they use ITG foam filter and has a very nice heat shield and design overall). It cost more ($350 I think) and is overpriced (just like everything else) but is the best kit out there in my opinion. The intake looks stock and there is a power increase that you can definitly feel (especially if you add the software sold by the same company). It sounds nice and you don't have to worry about water aspiration
Obviously If you can get anything used for a good price go for it as long it doesn't vacuum all the dirt on the road (i.e. Dinan)

I think I have decided on an ECIS intake. I called them today with some questions and although the person I needed to talk to was out of the office he called me back in 15 minutes when he was back. Most companies just tell you to call back or brush you off.
I also think that although the chance of hydrolocking is minimal it is still not something I want to worry about especially when their is not a performance difference and the ECIS has no problems with ellipsoid lighting(if i decide to do that).

be smart build your own custom cia there is gonna be no difference between cold air's other than there filtration also if you do buy one get one that is as low as possible to ground where you get the coldest air also you wont suck up any water unless your car goes threw a deep puddle plus if your worried about that buy a bypass filter that will expell water that enters the cold air in case shit happens. if your thinking about building your own cai go here i did it and it works pro" its easy 2 do if you got 6 hours and some cash lying around.
