Hi all,
As the title says, the car is jumping in first gear, If I take off very gently and bring the revs up slowly it is OK, it still jumps a little but its hardly noticable, However if I floor it, the car jumps violently. I got a friend to drive it with the same results, so its not my driving ) , I'm guessing its probably the clutch, but was wondering if anything else could be causing it, All help appreciated ...
Jumpy while letting the clutch out and "very" jumpy while fully out ... As soon as I change up to second gear, its perfect ... getting to the stage where I'm taking off in second gear
103874, Serviced 3874 miles ago by a garage that specialise in BMWs , had a full inspection during service and around $2000 dollars worth of parts replaced as of a result of the inspection ... Guess it'll have to go back in again .. Funny you mention the fuel problem, I've noticed on two occasions in the last while that when I started the car it just about cut out , the revs dropped off, I brought up the revs manually and it was fine after that ... will mention it to the lads in the garage

first thing i would do is change your fuel filter... sounds like it could be clogged and limiting the fuel supply...
I thought in manual e36's you "feel" first gear a lot more than other cars? Just what I heard..
The problem only started recently. I took it to the garage today and they found the problem in about a minute, The Pipe from the Air intake is cracked. The part is ordered and will be replaced tomorrow. I wrapped the pipe temporarily in tape and it is running fine now ...
Am having the EXACT same problem in my 97 316i Compact.
I've looked everywhere for some info about this and I felt compelled to thank you for sharing your experience.
Have not had a chance to have a look yet - was the crack blatantly obvious or discreet?
I take it problem solved as theres no more posts, would u mind gettin back to me tho.
