Cant Remove 325is Head Unit - Hex Size?

can anybody help me with this...

i was following el presidente's diy about installing a new stereo and i cant get past the first step. I have an american hex key set and the 5/64th inch hex key is too small for the bolts inside the radio. it fits in almost perfectly, but just a little small and spind around inside the bolt. the next size up is a 3/32 inch hex key and this is way too big.

i just got back from home depot where i tried to buy a metric hex set. this metric set had only keys of identical size as my american set, labeled 1.5 (5/64) and 2 (3/32).

el presidente recomends an 8mm hex key, this is 0.31496063 inch or about 5/16th inches. if the 5/64ths key is just slightly too small, i must have a different hu because 5/16ths would be way too big.

any ideas?

I'm pretty darn sure I used a size 8 with no problem. If you tried that and had luck (too small), then my guess would be that your holes are slightly stripped and allow for the 8mm hex to slip. If that's the case, try a 9mm and tap it in.

i just got them all out and an 8mm worked on one side the other side was slightly different for me so just try what you got and you wil find something

You do not need to buy a special tool for it. If you really can't get it you can take it to a dealer and they should be able to pull it out for you for free.

Edit: If you own a european car you might as well buy some tools that will work for it(if oyu plan on working on it)

Just go by the 5 sided key for a couple of bucks or just borrow one, i went to an installer and they did it for me for nada.
