Cant Figure Out How To Check My Engine Codes? - BMW Forum

Ok my check engine light is on and Im trying to read the codes by turning the key to on, waiting till the 2nd lights go out after about 2 seconds then hitting the gas all the way down quickly as possible 5 (probably more) times. Nothing happens. My car is a 92 325i, does this method work for my car?

You've got to press it 5 times IMMEDIATELY after turning the key to the first position. Before the 2nd lights go out.

Try again and report back.

I finally got the codes to read out...can't figure out what I did differently this time...turn the key, push the gas 5 times. Cool. I got a "1444" reading - meaning no faults! Yahoo!

Is there anyone who can take a pic of the 'check engine' light?? I'm not sure but I think there's none on my dash.

Sweet! I figured it out. Im throwing code 1222. Which is the O2 sensor. Is this why my car idles wierd until the car warms up? Also I thought the engine was supposed to give a code and then stop flashing? My light kept repeating the same code over and over. -Thanks

It's approximately above your steering wheel on your car and simply says "Check Engine". If you don't see it when you put your key in and turn it to the #2 position, then most likely your light is burned out.
