can my fuel filter be afecting my cars performance

depends on when it was last changed and ultimatly how dirty it is. But yes if it's really dirty then it could help your car run better, but don't be expecting a difference unless it is about to clog.

what kinds of problems are you havings that lead you to suspect the fule filter?

It's about time to change it, however, I don't think that it would make you have this kind of a problem. I would look to the throttle body, fuel injectors, or spark plugs/wires for the solution to this problem.

yeah if it needs to be changed yoiull feel a huge difference, we just changed one in my friends e30 and it made a huge difference but his was dead haha

i think bmws are just slow anyways except the m3 i think im just expecting power that just isnt there within the last month ive got new air filter oil change spark plugs changed fuel filter and new tires bmws are just cars that ride like a dream but not ur speed demon, it will still go every bit of 140 though so i dont think its one of my spark plugs or anything im using platinum plugs i hear some people downgrading them on here

It never hurts to change the fuel filter. Anytime I've changed one on any car I've always noticed a difference. Given, they were usually pretty bad since a lot of people don't even realize they exist. It's usually the cheapest place to start diagnosing problems, too.

BMWs are slow before you do much massaging. I know they're not supposed to be drag cars, but I jokingly drag raced a friend of mine at work today in my '92 325is vs. his '90 Geo Prizm automatic. I took off in first at low RPM like I would in traffic, but in first and second gears we were neck to neck. I totally pulled away once third gear got up to around 3000, but up until then we were right next to each other laughing our asses off (mostly him). I was wondering if I should ever mention what happened, but it was too funny not to tell somebody.
