Uhm...wrong forum. You have an E90 BMW not an E36.
Uhm, I believe that you are looking at the $250 DICE unit which will work fine for your car. On my E46 it was just wiring it up to the radio's input for the CD Changer. On a newer E90 I think it may be more computer trickery involved.
A simple iPod hook up is not 2 hour labour. The dealership ARE NOT exactly iPod/Stereo techs. So if you own the car i would take it to a valid electrical shop and save myself the $1000 labour & parts fee.
For a DICE (or similar-like kit) it should be $250 or so and about $50 to hook it up or you can easily DIY. But your E90 may require more than meets the eye.
